A Determination for Impact

Participating in the Rite Journey Programme offers our Year 9 students the opportunity to be both challenged and encouraged as they undergo personal development and are provided support as they transition from childhood to adulthood.

Many of the challenges and activities that our students conduct encourage them to reflect. This process of reflection commonly results in students learning some deeper truths about themselves, their faith, their values, their passions. The opportunities to reflect also heighten the students’ understanding and awareness of the wider community, how others are living, and how they can help make an impact and be positive citizens in our society.

In responding to these times of reflection, this year, our Year 9 Rite Journey girls fundraised for Zonta International, an organisation that has been empowering women through service and advocacy for more than 100 years.

Examples of types of programmes and initiatives that Zonta outwork include:

  • Encouraging women’s education through the awarding of scholarships,
  • Donating money and advocating for no violence against women,
  • Protecting international girls from child marriage,
  • Educating girls about climate change,
  • Financially and educationally supporting girls around the world with health and protection,
  • … and so much more!!

In doing these, Zonta’s efforts highlight the compassion, generosity of time and finances, and advocacy efforts of a team of people determined to make a change in our world for the better. We find this absolutely inspiring for our students to consider as they continue to develop mature thinking and observations of the world around them.

Our Year 9 Rite Journey girls dedicated much time and preparation to hosting bake sales throughout the year. Countless homemade, delicious cakes, ice-cream delights and other yummy goodies were sold to raise money for Zonta.

We are thrilled to say that our students raised over $730! The money donated has been put toward creating Birthing Kits, which contain effective tools for essential infection prevention and first-line childbirth care.

We are so proud of these students for raising such a significant amount of money and working hard to make a difference in the lives of other women!
