Our Junior School students go all out for Book Week with the 2022 theme “Dreaming with your eyes open”.
On Friday 26 August 2022, Book Week was held at Tyndale Christian School – Salisbury East and it was a delight to see our Junior School students dressed up in their favourite character costumes from well-known books and movies.
We were delighted to see many parents come along to support their kids dressed up in different character costumes. We have missed the opportunity having parents onsite for special occasions during the pandemic, so it was nice to see many parents able to return. The Junior School students took turns walking around the Covered Outdoor Learning Area (COLA), presenting their creative, colourful dress-up characters as parents watched on. There was a real buzz of excitement and joy in parent’s faces creating a great community atmosphere.
Book Week is an important week for both teachers and school librarians, as educators want to highlight the importance of reading to children at a young age. Reading books in Junior School helps many students with spelling, pronunciation and builds their vocabulary. Furthermore, teaching and encouraging students to read early on can help them read more often, as the world we live in has been predominantly dominated by technological devices such as iPads and smartphones.
At Tyndale Christian School – Salisbury East, one of our core values is ‘lifelong learning’. Our teachers encourage our students to immerse themselves in reading setting them up for success in their Senior years when they are required to interpret a variety of text types and write essays.
